Due to the exposed high mountain situation the opening date of the Timmelsjoch - Hochalpenstrasse depends essentially on the snow situation as well as area conditions.
According to experience road opening can earliest be expected at the end of may.
Starting in the middle of april the road is cleared of snow over a length of approx. 8 Km using two snowblowers. This extensive piece of work takes about four to eight weeks as the snow level may reach up to 8 m. Assuming weather and area conditions, especially on the italian side, stay stable.

According to experience the road can be opened mostly between the end of may and the beginning of june.
Strongly depending on the weather conditions interrelated with the duration of snow clearing we ask for your understanding that the exactly opening date only can be announced shortly.
Depending on the same conditions is the closing of the road in fall.
For safety reasons the road will be closed for winter from approx. middle of october. |

There is a limited permission for public traffic via the Timmelsjoch!

Due to the steep and very narrow street conditions as well as the bridge constructions on the Italian side a driving ban on buses and trucks counts more than 8.0t of overall weight as well as trailers of every kind.
Bicycling takes place on own danger! A functioning lighting system has to be mounted. |
