The route onto Timmelsjoch is a popular place of excursions for everyone. A lot of splendidly constructed trails lead from the road into the nature of the mountains in Oetz valley.
The 17th of july 1959 was a big day for Oetz valley, a outstanding day for tyrol and a special success for the pioneers of Timmelsjoch road. After a four year long time of construction the pioneers were full of proud and satisfaction when the 12 km long road was realised and opened to public traffic.

The road was well-engineered and perfectly arranged into the landscape. Not only the experience of nature, enjoyed by thousands of people on their way from north to south since, but also the motivation for Italy to construct a connection was enabled by this road.

As a touristic attraction on an elevation of 2500 m the road enables a lot of people experiencing the high alpine world and gives also a hint of the rough reality in the mountain landscape.
The road brought a move to hospitality in Oetz valley and Passeier Valley
and increased economy up to the highest roadhouse.
Thanks goes to the unforgotten pioneers of the road not only for their work, vision and care about the economic fortune of this beautiful part of the country but also for their persistence in achieving their aim.
It's a historical matter of fact that the Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrassen AG is an example for other road companies. Constructing the road did not destroy environment, but made nature accessible to a lot of people by harmonic engineering. |
